Quite awhile ago, I discovered Feel Good foods. They’re fairly pricy but they have so many amazing (and mostly) delicious options. There are very few products from them I don’t enjoy.
Last Fall, I was delighted when they put out cream cheese stuffed mini bagels (plain and everything). I tried both (of course). I felt … weird after I had them, but chalked it up to the Psyllium Husk Powder (which, if you’re not aware, also gets used in laxatives because of the fiber content). This happened with both flavors, so I just decided I wouldn’t eat them again.
And then months later, I heard they did a voluntary recall. For gluten cross contamination. This was in April 2024. You can read about it here.
So why, after all that, and with all the warnings from GF Watchdog recommending that Celiacs avoid oats after more than one brand of Purity Protocol oats suffered cross contamination, would a company who is specifically stating their products are Celiac-safe, make a dairy free product from OATmilk?
I love the Buttermilk pancake bites, so when I saw the banana ones the other day, I put them both in my cart. And then I saw made with oatmilk. And put them both back. They don’t even try to say they’re GF oats in the ingredients: Oatmilk (Water, Oat Flour), and from the why you’ll love it section: “Gluten free and Celiac-safe”.
I have emailed Feel Good Foods to find out (1) why they would go with oat-anything right now and (2) if these are shared lines, rendering all of their products unsafe.
I will update this post once I have some answers.
