While T and I were in NY for our wedding, we made sure to check out all the wonderful gluten free offerings at Wegman’s. One of the products we picked up is called GONE NUTS! They are raw and sprouted nut blends, and all of the products this company makes are raw, non-GMO, mostly organic, all natural, and gluten free! They do not use any fillers, chemicals, or additives! The nuts I got are raw, gluten free, and vegan.
I love maple, so when my Mom offered to buy us some gluten-free treats, I selected the Mesquite Pod Maple Walnuts to try. I’ve always loved nuts, and coated ones (usually sweet) are even better. We even tried to make our own coated walnuts one night, but it’s unfortunately really easy to burn the sugar on baked goods. Whoops!
The company that produces this product is called Living Intentions, and if you find them in your area, definitely pick up package, but nuts or something else, and give them a try. I would love to try out their other products, but (1) Wegman’s does not exist in southwest Virginia (sad face) and (2) For a 3 oz bag at between $4-$5, this product is a little out of my price range.
Here are the ingredients: sprouted organic walnuts, organic maple syrup, organic mesquite mod powder, organic cinnamon, Himalayan crystal salt, and organic spices. (May contain shell fragments. Allergen statement: This product has been produced in a facility that uses tree nuts and amazonian jungle products.)
You may be wondering, “Why raw? Aren’t nuts usually roasted? Why sprouted? What’s that about?”
According to Living Intentions (this is from the back of the package):
“Food in its raw, natural state contains essential enzymes, vitamins, and minerals compromised during high-heat processing. This is why Gone Nuts! is gently air-dried. We protect and preserve the good stuff. Sprouting creates life force. Through water activation, we take naturally dormant nuts and seeds and bring them to life. Sprouted foods ease digestion and increase vitality.”
My thoughts? If you like maple that isn’t too sweet, enjoy a nice smoky flavor with just the smallest hint of salt, you will thoroughly enjoy these nuts. The aftertaste is mild and pleasant. They may be the best nut blend I have ever had (so far!). I’m sure I ate more than 1 serving (the bag says 3 servings), but I just couldn’t put them down. But I do have some left, so I’ll save them for T to try (luckily this bag is resealable so they’ll stay nice and fresh!)
Were it feasible, I sure would love to try more products from Living Intentions.
